vroom - General La Madrid

Hey everyone! great week this week, Elder Ortega and I have been a ful working hard every day. He's had lots of good experience working with members and has showed me some good ways to teach and work with them! Its been great, he always has great ideas and the fire to work hard! He keeps us busy for sure!

small highlight from this week was playing ukulele on the roof of our apartment on a Sunday afternoon as the sun was going down with orange trees on either side of me while waiting for the zone leaders to call to give reports and boring stuff. the mission is the greatest, it keeps you busy all the time helping people in the most rewarding way, and then gives you a few magical moments to relax and feel good about life.

That's gonna be my spiritual thought this week: APPRECIATE THE SMALL THINGS IN LIFE! God gives us so many blessings and sometimes we don't even realize how much he's helping us. Try hard to acknowledge when things are going well, or when someone gives you a small act of service or when the moon looks pretty or whatever. All good things come from God, so try to recognize and give thanks for all the good things in your life! There are more than you know!

(PS: this past weekend was the year anniversary of the Rappers in the Aisle concert and EP release, go give the classic jams a listen)

P O K É M O N - Dean Funes

Well, there you have it folks, I finished the Pokemon theme song, using one line at a time for each of my email subjects. If you haven't caught on by now, I don't know what to tell you. I started this journey on October 30th, 2018, when I was still chillin in Catamarca in my first transfer. What an experience.

At this crucial point of change, it's a good time to remind you that my aunt Teresa has made a super epic blog where she puts all my emails and pics and extra stuff, its really cool. check it out: http://elderdallinjenkins.blogspot.com/

This week was real hard, not gonna lie. Hard is good though, it means you're getting stuff done. We've been working a lot with a family that's less active, trying to get them to get back to church and help two of their daughters get baptized. They weren't able to go to church on Sunday, but we taught a good lesson at their house after. We also invited a different boy from a different family to be baptized, and he accepted! When we meet with his brother, we'll also ask him to be baptized. They've come to church lots of times, its about time they should be baptized. Exciting stuff.

Highlight of the week was Saturday morning, when I got a call while eating my "Big-egg"TM (Patent pending) from my padre of the mission, Elder Farfal, who is currently in the office as the pensionero, or the person in charge of the apartments. He lets me know that him, his companion Elder Smith, and President Correa are gonna be at our apartment in an hour to paint and fix everything. YAY! It was super duper fun, listening to music together (You already know that Prez was jamming to some Rappers in the Aisle), painting everything so it looks super nice, going to get lunch with Prez and my padre, and singing hymns all together. It was a great time, and it was super fun to hang out with Elder Farfal again, it's been a while since we've seen each other. Also President Correa is a great singer and he gave me advice of what types of Argentine flutes I need to buy and learn to play before I go home. He showed me video examples. Now the pension looks really clean and nice, and we had time to organize it all today.

We got to eat an asado at a member's house, and we're gonna eat another one tonight somewhere else. Asado is just a ton of meat that's all cooked real slow and good. It's the best meat you'll ever have.

I'm writing today, not tomorrow, because we have a mission conference tomorrow, so we'll need to travel to Córdoba. It'll be great, its always fun to see other missionaries, and get trained by the assistants and President. I'm really excited.

This week I've thought a lot about how amazing the Atonement is, especially after tearing up teaching it to a family during an exchange in a different area. We watched the Prince of Peace video that the church made, and it's really powerful. It's amazing that no matter what pain or suffering or sin we're dealing with, Christ has already paid for it, we just need to "come" to Him into his "arms of mercy" and He's ready and willing to help us. Everyone be sure to be grateful for that huge sacrifice.

Hope you all have a great week, don't miss me too much.

(PS, if anyone has an idea of what I should do with my subject lines, please help me, I feel lost now that I've finished the Pokemon theme song.)

FLAME ON! - CCM

Hola! I've been stoked all week to write this email. Fun Fact: someone should make a mashup of I Feel My Savior's Love and Dreams by the Cranberries. They have the same notes at the start. Eh. They give us boxed chocolate milk here called Choco Melvin with a brown elephant with a human body on the carton, and it tastes exactly like the Yoohoo! chocolate milk I had when I was a tender lad. Everyone go sip a Yoohoo. They're dank. Speaking of dank, try making some "dank sauce," it's equal parts ketchup, mayo, and BBQ sauce, then smothered in Tahin and mixed all together. It's killer, and it makes the food here taste better, but the food still... uhhhh... well, just go read Jeremiah 4:19. You'll understand.

Cool stuff this week, it was harder than last week, but I learned a lot more. We learned about Family History and watched a video called "Russell M. Nelson: A Visit From Father." It's super cool, watch it for FHE or something. I'm getting a lot better at teaching lessons, but sometimes I get a bit burned out. Like I said last week, I feel the Spirit with excitement and energy, so when I'm tired (a lot this week) I can't teach by the Spirit as well. When I do teach by the Spirit though, its crazy how much the Lord can help you with Spanish and knowing what to say. It's awesome.

We got to go to the temple last week, it was so rad. One of the most unique looking temples, and speaking spanish the whole time was really interesting. Really awesome to see first hand that the church is so widespread, and so many people are able to partake in the blessings of the Gospel and the temple.

We made up a game yesterday called Bunkball, its played on a tennis court with a volleyball, 6 on 6. You serve it like volleyball, it can bounce one time once it crosses to the other side before anyone touches it, then after it's touched, you have a total of 3 hits and 1 more bounce to get it back over. It's a lot harder and more fun than it sounds. give it a try.

Everyone listen to Me and Michael. It's the greatest song in history. (Besides Hymns and Rappers in the Aisle.)

Elder Kotter is still a beast, he's the coolest guy. If you guys know the scripture that goes along the lines of "through service you will receive wisdom" let me know, because he's been searching for it. All of our district is getting along better and better. Its really cool to see everyone start to be comfortable and open to each other. Were writing a rap song together about the CCM to perform to the new missionaries. Gonna be TIGHT.

Speaking of tight rap songs, Elder Parr and I have a surprise for you all, that should be attached to this email or sent later. Give it a crisp ol listen, we spent a whole 15 minutes on it. #RitA4EVER
